Finance

The Group relies almost entirely on subscriptions from the parents and carers of youth members and on our own fundraising. We receive no regular contributions from elsewhere.

From January 2025, subscriptions are £12 per child per month payable by online payment or bank transfer.

Subscriptions are reviewed regularly by the Group Trustee Board, who keep it as low as possible consistent with providing a quality programme of activities and events for all our members. The current subscription rate of £12 per month was introduced in January 2025, following rising costs. The previous rate of £11 per month was introduced in September 2023.

In addition to subscriptions, we raise some of the money we need by fundraising activities. The more successful these are, the lower we can keep subscriptions – so, please do help as much as possible when asked to get involved in fundraising activities.

A major cost is an annual membership payment of £62.50 (2024) for every youth member. Some of this maintains the Scout District, Scout County and UK Headquarters, but a large part of it pays for the very comprehensive insurance for all our activities.

The list below shows some of the main areas in which we spend money. If you would like more details of our income and expenditure, please look at our Annual Accounts.

  • Training of volunteers
  • Hire of meeting venues at Barnham and Walberton and storage facilities
  • Uniform, scarves, badges and resources for volunteers and children
  • Costs of camps and other nights away not charged to participants
  • Annual insurance payments
  • Materials for section meetings
  • Purchase and maintenance of camping and other equipment
