St George’s Day 2017

640 members of the Arundel & Littlehampton Scout District, including 76 members of 1st Barnham, paraded through Arundel and up to the Cathedral for the annual St George’s Day celebration on Sunday 23rd April 2017. The parade was led by the District Scout Band and the District standards.

This year 1st East Preston had the task of organising the service for members, invited Mayors, Chairmen and Councillors together with past leaders and “friends” of the Scout District. During the service members of Scouting past and present renewed their Scouting Promise. The service was conducted jointly between Bishop Richard Moth, Canon Tim Madeley of the Cathedral and Rev.

After the service, District Commissioner, Mark Hewson, took the salute as the whole District marched past. Following the parade a leader’s afternoon tea was held at the Arundel Football Club which was organised by 1st East Preston Scout Group.

This week your child will be starting to make a Pinewood Derby Car. They will be coming home with a lump of wood, wheels etc and instructions!

The cars will then be judged and raced at our AGM on Saturday 18th June. Please come along and support this event. Rolls Royce will also be bringing a car along to show.

Please can you make a cake to bring along and share?

We are also looking for a couple of parents to join our Executive Committee. The committee meets approximately 4 times a year and manages how the group is run and how the finances are spent. If you are interested in joining us, please speak to either Mark Guy or Nicky Poulter. Details about being an Executive Committee member can be found here.

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you on 18th June.

Cobnor Camp 2016

Over 80 members of the Group joined us at Cobnor Activity Centre, Chidham between 29th May and 2nd June for our Circus themed camp. With Beavers camping one night, Cubs for 3 nights and Scouts for 4 nights.

A fantastic time was had by all, despite the challenging weather! As a result of high winds the Cubs and Scouts were unable to undertake the water activities as planned, alternatives were quickly provided by the Cobnor team instead.

So many activities were enjoyed over the course of camp, far too many to mention here!

JOTT 2016

65 beavers, cubs, scouts, leaders and parents joined us for this year’s Jamboree On The Trail (JOTT) Hike, starting and ending in Burpham.

With an option of two routes, most of the group embarked on a 8.3 mile hike from Burpham north to the South Downs Walk, climbing up to the triangulation point at 193 metres and back. Those with shorter legs walked 5 ish miles, looking out for geocaches along the way.

With the weather on our side, we all had a fantastic time.
