Trim Trail Challenge

This week our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Peregrine Explorers took on the Trim Trail Challenge at Murrell’s Field, Barnham.

This sponsored event consisting of ten obstacles; chin ups, rope climb, sit ups, stride jumps, balance beam, monkey bars, run and leap, step up bench, parallel bars and shuttle run. It was certainly a challenge, but great fun too! Check out the photo gallery below.

All proceeds from the event are supporting two Peregrine Explorer Scouts; Lottie and Josh (both previously 1st Barnham Scouts) to attend the 24th World Scout Jamboree in USA 2019. With part of their fees enabling Scouts from developing countries to attend the Jamboree.

So far, the sponsorship raised from the Trim Trail totals £412 [Update 19/07/18: Total raised = £450], and with some sponsorship yeah to be received we hope to reach our goal of £500. A massive THANK YOU to all the sponsors and the beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers for taking on the challenge.

Angry Birds AGM

Today’s Angry Birds AGM was a flying success, even if we do say so ourselves.

What better way to liven up our Annual General Meeting, than make some modroc ‘angry birds’ (prepared during Beavers, Cubs and Scouts over the last two weeks), insert bird into a catapult and fire it at a wall of cardboard boxes! Watch the birdie fly in the slow motion video below.

*** No actual birds were harmed in today’s event 🤣

Can you build a den?

can-you-build-a-den

Building dens is a real treat when you are a child, and even more fun when you are an adult!
We need you to come along to Beavers or Cubs and support our young people.
Not just to build dens, but help do map work, craft, walking, camping and make stuff from bits of wood (we call that pioneering).
What we need is an extra pair of hands to help the leaders provide these fantastic activities.

St George’s Day 2017

640 members of the Arundel & Littlehampton Scout District, including 76 members of 1st Barnham, paraded through Arundel and up to the Cathedral for the annual St George’s Day celebration on Sunday 23rd April 2017. The parade was led by the District Scout Band and the District standards.

This year 1st East Preston had the task of organising the service for members, invited Mayors, Chairmen and Councillors together with past leaders and “friends” of the Scout District. During the service members of Scouting past and present renewed their Scouting Promise. The service was conducted jointly between Bishop Richard Moth, Canon Tim Madeley of the Cathedral and Rev.

After the service, District Commissioner, Mark Hewson, took the salute as the whole District marched past. Following the parade a leader’s afternoon tea was held at the Arundel Football Club which was organised by 1st East Preston Scout Group.

Exciting news about our new tent appeal!
Today we received two donations; £379.43 from DM Thomas Foundation for Young People and £209.53 from the Hilton Avisford Park Community Fund.
A big thank you from us all.
These donations, together with other donations recently received and a grant application we are waiting to hear the outcome of will be used to replace our six Vango tents ready for use by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts this summer.
