Cobnor Camp 2016

Over 80 members of the Group joined us at Cobnor Activity Centre, Chidham between 29th May and 2nd June for our Circus themed camp. With Beavers camping one night, Cubs for 3 nights and Scouts for 4 nights.

A fantastic time was had by all, despite the challenging weather! As a result of high winds the Cubs and Scouts were unable to undertake the water activities as planned, alternatives were quickly provided by the Cobnor team instead.

So many activities were enjoyed over the course of camp, far too many to mention here!

JOTT 2016

65 beavers, cubs, scouts, leaders and parents joined us for this year’s Jamboree On The Trail (JOTT) Hike, starting and ending in Burpham.

With an option of two routes, most of the group embarked on a 8.3 mile hike from Burpham north to the South Downs Walk, climbing up to the triangulation point at 193 metres and back. Those with shorter legs walked 5 ish miles, looking out for geocaches along the way.

With the weather on our side, we all had a fantastic time.

St George’s Day 2016

St G Day coverOver 100 members of the Group joined together with approximately 700 other Scouts for across Arundel & Littlehampton Scout District for this years St George’s Day service and parade in Arundel.

As ‘Duty’ Group, 1st Barnham led the parade with Scouts and Cubs forming the main colour party, followed by our fantastic St George and his tamed dragon. Once inside Arundel Cathedral our focus turned to coordinating the service and our ‘100 years of Cub Scouts’ performance.

The day was a fantastic success, a massive thank you to everybody who helped – whether it was making cakes, serving refreshments, marshalling, moving chairs, transporting equipment, making props, carrying props or reading in the service.

We’ve received lots of great feedback from other groups and the invited guests. So well done to you all!

Arundel & Littlehampton District Scout Carol Service

1st Barnham hosted this year’s District Carol Service at St Philip Howard School, Barnham. The main school hall was packed out with approximately 300 members and parents from across the District.

‘The Light is Coming’ service was led by Father Martin Powell of St Mary’s Barnham and included traditional readings, prayers, hymns and some more creative festive contributions from our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. The District band played a selection of tunes before and after the service helping us all get into the Christmas spirit.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Once again, 1st Barnham have decided to take part in Jamboree on the Trail (JOTT). Jamboree On The Trail is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders) and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can. This year, we have decide to walk in the Arundel Park area. Beavers will do a shorter route and will aim to meet up with the Cubs and Scouts for lunch.

10 am – Cubs and Scouts to meet in Mill Road Car Park, Arundel (by Arundel Museum), returning at approximately 2pm. The route is approximately 6.5 miles.

11 am – Beavers to meet in Mill Road Car park, Arundel (by Arundel Museum), returning at approximately 2pm. The route is approximately 4 miles.

Any Beaver wishing to walk the longer route is welcome to do so if accompanied by their parent.

Parents and siblings are welcome to join us on our JOTT, either route, any non-members must attend with a parent.

If your child has also been invited to attend the Bronze and Silver Awards ceremony in Arundel on this day, you will hopefully be able to attend both events! If you are going to do this, please let me know so we can check the timings. Parents will need to accompany their child from the hike to the ceremony!

Everyone will need to bring their own packed lunch and drinks. All should wear suitable footwear for walking and be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

Non uniform but please can children wear their green Barnham polo shirt and scarf.

Only in extremely bad weather will the JOTT be cancelled. Hence knowing who is planning to attend being helpful!

All members that participate will receive a JOTT 2015 blanket badge (not to be worn on uniform) and will have completed one Hike Away to be added to their tally!
